A TRANGIE pilot has died in an aircraft crash in the state's Shoalhaven region while assisting with firefighting operations.

The town is in shock after receiving the news the 43-year-old father and husband had been confirmed deceased.
Emergency services were called to remote bushland north west of Ulladulla about 10.10am on Thursday following reports of a fixed-wing crash.
The aircraft was contracted to the NSW Rural Fire Service to conduct fire-fighting suppression activities near Wirritin Mountain.
Police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command, Fire and Rescue NSW and Ambulance officers attended the scene.
Due to the rugged and steep terrain it took crews several hours to reach the crash site.
The pilot was the only person on board.
NSW Police Aviation Command is heading to the scene with an air crash investigation officer who with liaise with Air Transport Safety Bureau investigators.
Investigators will prepare a report for the Coroner.
