It was a case of formulas and calculators plus a mathematics HSC paper equaled relief for the Dubbo students who sat their exam yesterday.
St Johns College student Brett Latham who studied mathematics said the paper was 'fairly straightforward'.
The two-part exam asked 10 multiple choice questions and six 'short answer questions'.
Brett said he was hoping to improve on the marks he received in the HSC trials.
"Maths is one of my tougher subjects," he said.
"There were tricky bits in this exam... it was more to do with me not preparing as much as I should have."
His subjects include physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, advanced English and studies of religion one unit.
Brett was unable to pinpoint the exact amount of hours he had studied for each subject.
"You need to know a lot of background information for all the subjects... but in the sciences and maths you have to directly answer the questions... in English you have more options on how you answer them, which can sometimes make it more difficult," he said.
Mr Latham thinks he may pursue a career as a video game designer after finishing year 12.
His immediate plan after the school formal is a 10-day family holiday to Japan.
