Some volunteers are going into the fire zone for the first time while others are very experienced.
Weather conditions tomorrow are expected to worsen, with firefighters today deliberately joining two major bushfires on Tuesday.
The State Mine fire at Lithgow and the Mount Victoria fire were burning two kilometres apart on Tuesday morning, with firefighters joining the eastern edged of the two blazes as part of containment strategies.
On Tuesday morning there were 62 fires still burning around the state, 13 of which were not contained.
Region West One zone commander Greg Lewis said he would be happy if the local group reached the fire ground and were not needed, however didn't think this would be the case.
Light rain measuring no more than a couple of millimetres was falling in parts of the Blue Mountains on Tuesday morning, but it was not helping the firefight.
