Collectively the two events fundraised about $120,000 to go towards organisations that help countless members of the community.
More than $78,000 will to go to the Cancer Council and about $40,000 for Pink Angels and Dubbo Hospital, which is no small achievement in a 24-hour period.
The funds from the local Relay for Life will provide needed support for cancer patients, research and awareness through the Cancer Council.
Pink Angels will be in a better position to provide support to breast cancer patients with two $8000 chairs to be purchased for the oncology unit from the funds raised at the memorial dinner.
The importance the community places on these events was witnessed in the large number of people that attended.
More than 500 people turned out to the event to show their support for the Relay for Life, transforming Victoria Park No. 1 Oval into a mass of tents, purple shirts and safari colours to tie in with the event's theme.
More than 170 turned out to support the memory of Dubbo community man Warwick Rapley at the Dubbo RSL Memorial Club.
The stories from the weekend such as cancer patients taking time out of recovery to walk at the Dubbo and District Relay for Life and the lively display to raise money for charity only emphasises the wonderful community spirit in the city.
Well done to everyone involved.
