Orana Local Area Command Detective Inspector Rod Blackman said the information had suggested items connected with the alleged murder of Alois Rez had been discarded in that section of the river.
He said the divers could be searching that section of the Macquarie for the next couple of days in their recovery efforts.
Detective Inspector Blackman said he would not reveal any further information regarding the type of items being sought.
He said the flow of the river meant the police would not be able to confine the area of the search and the divers could be there for more than a day.
"We've found nothing to speak of at present," Inspector Blackman said.
However, he said the PolAir helicopter would return to Dubbo this morning to continue in assisting the search for the missing man.
Detectives investigating the alleged murder are still appealing to the public in relation to a missing black Great Wall sports utility vehicle that was believed have been travelling through the Dubbo area at about 3am Monday, July 29.
Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigations has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
