WINNING a grand final as a rookie captain-coach was a proud moment for Gilgandra's Alex Prout but he believes being picked for the NSW Country Bulls side to play Western Australia next month may just top it.

Prout led the Panthers to the 2011 Castlereagh League title, working closely with his father Owen in the process and while he isn't coaching anymore, he's looking forward to using the week-long camp in Perth with the Country side to help his club side when he returns.
"Getting picked in this squad came as a real shock," Prout said.
"The Castlereagh side only played the one game in the Tier 2 Championships and these kinds of sides usually get made up of guys that progress through the tournament and can get more noticed by the selectors.
"At the start of the season it was a goal of mine and then I thought I'd probably miss out so I was excited when I got the call."
A halfback at club level, Prout has been selected on the bench for the Bulls squad which will play Western Australia in Perth on July 7.
The match will be a curtain-raiser for the NRL clash between South Sydney and the New Zealand Warriors.
"I'm really looking forward to spending that week in camp and learning from the other guys and coaches," Prout said.
"I hurt my knee playing for Castlereagh against Group 3 at Moree and haven't played since so I'm keen to get back out there.
"I can hopefully bring some of what I learn back to Gilgandra and help the boys. The Castlereagh League is a really even competition this year so anything that can help us might be a good advantage leading into the semi-finals."
