Clear skies and forecast top temperature of 27 degrees could push up crowd numbers, he thinks.
“It’s beautiful weather and hopefully we will get up to 20,000,” he said in Dubbo yesterday.
“We can certainly handle that many. It’s a big space here at the showground. It’s great.”
For the first time the annual concert is being broadcast live on ABC2 with Mr Scaddan suspecting up to 100,000 people will tune in across Australia to watch the show and learn even more about Dubbo.
Triple j, the ABC’s nationally-networked radio station for the young and young at heart, has been promoting the city heavily since it won the right to host the event.
What clinched the deal for the capital of western NSW?
“I guess the enthusiasm of the local council, to be honest,” Mr Scaddan said.
Dubbo City Council made a comprehensive pitch for the event that triple j is glad it accepted.
“We really do rely on the local council,” the manager said.
“We bring the stage, we bring the bands, we do the broadcast, but we ask them to put together the traffic plan, deal with the local police and everything else to make sure it’s a good event.”
That “everything else” includes bins, toilets and tucker.
The council is taking care of the first two and Dubbo Show Society the third with help from 14 organisations, ranging from sporting and service clubs to girl guides and scouts.
Triple j staff got a taste of Dubbo when they arrived in the city on Thursday for a tour and meal at the Pastoral Hotel.
Mr Scaddan said the city was “very positive, really friendly”.
“The Smile Dubbo campaign is really working,” he said.
There is expected to be a long line of people waiting to get into the showground when the gates open at 4.30pm today.
The all-age free concert, where alcohol and drugs are not permitted, will feature Flume, Seth Sentry, The Rubens and Ball Park Music, along with homegrown Peoples Palace as the opening act.
A gold coin donation is requested of concertgoers for a charity.
Mr Scaddan wants people to “come ready to have a good time, get into the music and take care of their mates”.
The event will be broadcast live by triple j and can be followed on its website.
Gates close at 10pm.
