Dubbo Local Court Magistrate Andrew Eckhold told Aiden Shane Osborne "trouble will be close in terms of drugs at the Apollo Estate''.
The 24-year-old appeared handcuffed in the dock on charges of shoplifting, possessing a prohibited drug, resisting police, using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, being an unlicensed driver, using an authorised number plate, displaying an illegal vehicle label and not stopping at a stop line.
The court heard Osborne had been deemed suitable for the Magistrate's Early Referral Into Treatment drug and alcohol program and he wanted to participate in residential rehabilitation.
"The trouble is rehab centres won't take him straight from custody,'' Osborne's solicitor said.
An officer from the probation and parole service said Osborne had been subject to bonds (in the past) but returned to custody before much progress could be made.
Magistrate Eckhold said Osborne had been before the court on many occasions.
"It is time for this (offending) to stop,'' the magistrate said.
"You need to work at rehabilitation.''
Osborne was allowed bail with strict conditions. The charges were adjourned to March 11 for mention.
A MERIT update will be provided to the court on April 10.
Magistrate Eckhold said bail would be suspended if Osborne entered residential rehabilitation.
He was ordered to follow the directions of MERIT officers.
