This weekend the Orana Mutual Macquarie Classic and Carp Muster will take place.
The event has been organised by RiverSmart's Dr Bill Phillips and fishing enthusiast Matt Hansen, with the intention of attracting locals and visitors, back to our beautiful Macquarie River.
It is anticipated as many as 300 to 400 people will take part in the inaugural event which starts at Burrendong Dam, via Wellington, and ends in the Macquarie Marshes at Corinda.
The organisers encourage people to come along and enjoy the social aspect of the event, even if they don't want to participate in the fishing competition.
The weekend will also see a river clean-up as well as a carp muster, in the hope of improving the overall health of the river.
Saturday, will also see the newly formed Dubbo Prospecting, Fossicking and Camping Club enjoy its first local barbecue.
The group was recently formed by local Brian Walters who wanted some like-minded souls to enjoy a few bush adventures with.
The Facebook group kicked off only two months ago and has already attracted well over 750 members.
Mr Walters wants to encourage anyone who would like to participate in future events to join the Facebook page and attend the barbecue in Elston Park.
It will start at 12.30pm and finish about 3.30pm.
