Both bodies have received $1000 from the Old Boys to promote their involvement in rugby league.
Men of League president Martin Cook and Bob Pilon were on hand for the presentation along with Warren Wilson and Brayden Peachey from the Pacemakers.
“We believe the Men Of League Foundation has achieved so much since its inception and the work that it has done in assisting past rugby league players and others who have been involved in this great game and have unfortunately fallen on hard times is to be commended,” Old Boys secretary Kel Brown said
“Dubbo CYMS Old Boys are proud to make our donation of $1000 to the local branch of Men Of League to help them with their support locally.
“We have also recognised the outstanding work the Pacemakers have done over many years and what they have achieved since they were formed in 1976.
“Since this time the Pacemakers club has produced many outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen who have done themselves and Dubbo proud.
“The Pacemakers are very much a family orientated club and provide sporting opportunities for the whole family with softball, netball, hockey, cricket, soccer and rugby league teams proudly displaying the Pacemakers emblem.”
CYMS Old Boys was founded in 1998 by a group of past players wanting to remain involved in the Dubbo CYMS Rugby League Club.
Their current executive is made up of Brian O’Sullivan (president), Barry O’Connor (treasurer), Kel Brown (secretary) and directors Chris Ferguson, Chris Morris, Gordon Dover and Lew Hughes.
At home games the Old Boys meet in numbers at the Dubbo Rugby Club rooms at No.1 Oval and also take in a number of away games. This Sunday they have a mini bus organised for the match of the round against Parkes at Parkes.
“We had all done our time after playing and as members of the general committee, however we wanted to support the club in a different way,” Brown said.
“We all still had a passion for rugby league, for CYMS and the culture that has made it such a successful and enjoyable club since joining Group 11 in 1958.
“Due to the loyalty and dedicated support of our committee and members the CYMS Old Boys has survived and although there have been some difficult times we are now recognised in Dubbo and Group 11, not only for our support to Dubbo CYMS and rugby league generally, but also for the support we have given to local charities and causes in and around Dubbo.
“Our strength is made possible through the generosity of the Dubbo people who support our raffles and other fundraisers.
“Without this support we would be unable to achieve our goals and give the assistance we have to rugby league and other deserving causes into the future.”
