Both are relatively newcomers to club golf but already Hamish is down to 20 handicap and improving at a rapid rate.
He had a great round of 85 scratch for 65 nett but needed a countback decision to get the better of Jack with 97 and 65 nett.
Hamish’s day was complete when announced as winner of the Junior Medal on a course that was in reasonably good condition following all the rain, but there was a distinct advantage to be on the fairways. There were also no preferred lies.
Junior golf convener Christian Hampson has now taken over as captain and will be searching for more people to help with the promotion of the game at a junior level.
He is keen to see someone take on the job and hopefully that will happen sooner rather than latter bearing in mind that there are currently 60 young boys and girls currently taking part in regular junior competition.

Good scores were also forthcoming in A and B-grades on Saturday for the medals, but not without countback calculations. Trophies were donated by the ANZ Bank.
In the top grade Max Reid had 79-10 for 69 to win from Andrew Dunkley (77-69) while in B-grade it was Rob Caton’s day with 84-68, finishing in front of Bill Richardson with 82-68.
For the scratch prizes Ben Amor shot five-over-par 76 on the 1-18 course to win A-grade; in B-grade Jason Farr’s 82 was best and in C-grade Hamish Gordon (85) was the winner.

The 2010 Medal of Medals finals was also decided on Saturday with Grant O’Reilly (81-69) the winner in A-grade; Bill Richardson (82-68) in B-grade and Gavin Weekes with 98-71 in C-grade.
It was an excellent weekend for Weekes who backed up on Sunday to team with Matt Morris to win the RSL Christmas 4BBB after they carded 57 points. A feature was Weekes’ chip in for 3/6 (that’s correct, eagle three for six points) on the par-5 12th hole.
Weekes has (read that as was) been playing off 27 handicap with the golf club and 35 with the RSL.

For the nearest to the pin balls, Jason Brown (250cm) was the best on the 8th hole; Barry Hillian (55cm) on 11th; Graham Marchant 118cm (15th) and Peter Allan (155cm) on the 18th. Winner on the 5th hole wasn’t listed on the result sheet.

Australia’s Stuart Appleby has been voted the PGA Tour comeback player of the year after going from his worst season to a magical win.
Appleby won The Greenbrier Classic by closing with a 59, making him one of only two players to hit golf’s magic number in the last round.
His historic win followed a year in which he finished outside the top 125 on the money list for the first time since his rookie season.
The Victorian used a one-time exemption for career money to keep his card.
His win helped him to finish 38th on the money list, and he topped off his year by winning the Australian Masters.
Players voted for Appleby over Rocco Mediate and Arjun Atwal.
