Skipper Glen Gallagher will lead an RSL side that contains Brad Cox, Mitchell O’Connor, Matt Ryan and Jason Ryan who will line up for Macquarie Valley at the Western Zone All Age carnival in Forbes on the weekend.
Tonight’s catch-up match came about after it was postponed on October 25 because of rain.
Warren will have two players involved in the All Age series.
Dwayne Kent, who plays with CYMS in the Dubbo Whitney Cup competition, will turn out with Macquarie Valley, while tonight’s Warren captain Greg Radford will lead the Barbarians outfit at Forbes.
Despite the presence of experienced players in Radford, Warren Lefebure and John McKay, Warren will be in for a tough match tonight against a side that hasn’t been beaten in grade or night matches for two seasons.
RSL’s batting is in tremendous form with Brad Cox a master at the one-day game and Mitchell O’Connor coming off successive centuries in the Country under-17 carnival at Wollongong last weekend.
Martin Bourke will tonight be missing opening partner Wes Giddings who is out of cricket indefinitely following a finger operation.
Bourke is in excellent form and made a top-notch 86 in the last Whitney Cup game against Macquarie while Giddings contributed 61.
The big bonus for RSL however was the masterful innings of 83 from Glen Gallagher.
He is a talented sportsman and it is obvious even at this early stage of the season that the captaincy won’t prevent him playing his natural game.
RSL bat right down the list and they have the ability to easily score in excess of six runs an over - and have the bowling attack to back up their batting talent.
Meanwhile, next Wednesday night in Eastern Airlines Cup cricket the newly formed Athletes Foot Cavaliers will make their debut against Ben Hunt’s Rugby.
Cavaliers came in following the withdrawal of Mudgee and prolific run-maker Tony Fuller has been asked to captain the side. CYMS will be on duty.
