In all eight matches were decided at Sports World Stadium with some surprise results.
In the men’s A-grade Paintball Players were expected to be too strong for the Western Star however the Star, led by MVP Marty Roberts, were never headed, running out comfortable 69-43 winners.
The A-Grade women’s game between Inked Up and DALC was a much closer affair with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions.
The result was in the balance until the last minute with Inked Up coming away with a hard-fought 47-42 win. The MVP was Zenetra Astill.
The Women’s A-Reserve match was also a close encounter between Western Star and Sparkeys with Western Star led by the ever young MVP Sue Davidson holding on to win 57-48.
The B-men’s match saw two evenly matched teams in Swamp Donkeys and Pineapple Express do battle.
Express finished the stronger to record a 46-39 win although in a beaten side Peter Walsh had an outstanding game to pick up the MVP.
It should be noted that both Walsh and team-mate Chris Spinner travel from Mudgee each week to play in the local competition.
The B-women’s decider saw All Sorts holding too many guns for Pastoral in recording a strong 50-27 win with Melissa Knaggs picking up the MVP award.
The C-grade men’s encounter bought together Chips and Hotspurs.
Hotspur’s Butch Ryan always seems to find that bit extra in big games and led his team to a 62-36 win.
In the C-grade women’s decider Yin Yang - led by MVP Lisa Northill - proved too strong for a brave Subway outfit to run out 46-20 winners.
In the final game of the night Amaroo got the result over Godspeed to collect the D-grade women’s title with a 53-32 win. This is Godspeed’s first competition and the team, led by Nancy McNaught, are a pleasure to have in the competition.
The Dubbo Basketball Association would like to thank Grant Cole from Sportsman’s Warehouse who sponsored the MVP and referee awards.
All players are reminded that the new competition will commence with an information night on Tuesday, January 25 with games to commence the following week.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the associations web site.
