Developers Woolworths have confirmed construction work is about to begin on the complex that will take shopping to new heights in Dubbo’s western quarter.
Job seekers have been given a heads-up about recruitment later this year and the first shoppers should be able to step foot in the store in the new year.
The Delroy Central Shopping Centre was the vision of developer Chris Condon, but he sold it to anchor tenant Woolworths in the second half of last year.
Woolworths spokesman Benedict Brook said that the plans for the store were progressing.
“We’re planning to go on site in April to start construction,” he said.
“The fences should already be up and the work sheds should arrive by the end of the month.
“Subject to the weather, we plan to open the store early in the new year.”
With Woolworths comes the promise of new jobs.
“The supermarket and liquor store will generate 85 jobs,” Mr Brook said.
Woolworths also released information about car parking at the complex, that will become its third flag-bearer in Dubbo.
There would be 197 open-air car parks at ground level, Mr Brook said.
The shopping centre’s developers have suggested varying numbers of tenants in the past, but that has been settled.
There would be 14 specialty shops and the company would commence leasing those, Mr Brook said.
“The usual for a centre is to have a café, butcher, baker and greengrocer, but there is no confirmation, there may be a newsagent as well,” he said.
Recruitment would begin about three months from the store’s opening date, Mr Brook said.
