She has used her column in today’s Daily Liberal, to say that while it’s worthwhile highlighting the positives the “cracks” in the collegiate structure of the school must not be ignored.
Meeting with Minister Firth to discuss the issue last week Ms Fardell said she was “optimistic” discussions could lead to a better model for public secondary education in Dubbo.
“My recent conversation with the education minister Verity Firth about these problems was positive,” she said.
“There is however, need for urgent and comprehensive changes to rebuild confidence in public secondary education in Dubbo.
“We have talented students, dedicated teachers and caring parents - all we need now is an education model to match.”
For weeks now the Teachers Federation have highlighted their concerns over the split college system.
Western Region Teachers Federation representative Brett Bertalli said while teachers were encouraged by the fact the local member was entering into the debate and attempting to mediate between the teachers and the minister, they still believe a 7-12 structure was the only way.
Earlier this week a spokesperson for the minister confirmed Ms Fardell has met with the minister “to discuss operational arrangements for Dubbo College.”
