Babushka Productions are back and proving popular these school holidays, with more than 20 students already signed up for the four-day workshops at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.
St Mary’s Primary School student Scarlett Mahon wasn’t missing the classroom yesterday - she was too busy doing cartwheels, front wheels and back rolls.
The ten-year-old attended the workshops last time they were in town and said it was a great way to kick off the school holidays.
The best part about the workshops, which were drama focused but had an acrobatic theme yesterday, was “playing games and meeting new people”.
Babushka Productions co-creative directors Jennie Bradbury and Wendy Buswell said the workshops were a great way for children to interact and come out of their shells.
“It has only been the first day but already they’re taking risks they wouldn’t have taken earlier,” Ms Buswell said.
“There’s a varied group and a couple of kids that are home schooled and already they’re all really friendly.”
Ms Bradbury said the workshops helped build children’s confidence, improve team work and broaden creative thinking all while their “imagination is constantly engaged”.
“And it is fun. That’s the bottom line - it’s fun. And they’re all laughing and wanting to show what they’ve learned,” she said.
