Police were called to a Provan Place address that two men had targeted, taking the
motorbike and personal items, after neighbours raised the alarm.
The motorbike was recovered a short distance away along with a stolen car, but police were yesterday unable to confirm if the offenders who were still at large had travelled in it from another town.
The incident is the latest in a string of break and enters that prompted Orana Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Rod Blackman to say police were employing strategies to address a spike.
Police investigations into the Provan Place break and enter continued yesterday and Inspector Alan Cusack appealed for information from the public.
About 2am yesterday police responded to an address in Provan Place after receiving reports from residents of men wheeling a motorcycle along the street.
The men also broke into a home and took a number of personal items Insp Cusack said.
From initial inquiries it appeared that neighbours disturbed the intruders after they removed the motorcycle from the shed, he said.
“Neighbours were alerted by a barking dog,” he said.
“Police attended and
neighbours reported seeing males running through the backyard.
“Neighbours also assisted police in the search at the time.”
Police were also investigating the theft of items from vehicles in the south-eastern areas of Dubbo.
Insp Cusack called on the public to come forward with any information on either yesterday’s break and enter or the theft of items from cars.
“Police are requesting anyone with information to contact Dubbo detectives or Crime Stoppers, no matter how small the piece of information,” he said.
