Thousands of dollars of contents were lost from the back of the semi-trailer when it rolled after the driver inadvertently took a wrong turn in the early stages of a trip to Brisbane.
Shortly before 2pm police, ambulance and rural fire service crews were called to the scene of the single-vehicle accident where a Kenworth semi-trailer had veered off the road and lost its load of mangoes.
The 44-year-old driver of the vehicle was conveyed to Dubbo Base Hospital where he was in a stable condition.
Orana Local Area Command (LAC) duty officer Inspector Matt Scott said one lane of traffic on the road was blocked for a considerable period of time while debris from the accident was cleared from the scene.
“We are continuing our investigations into the exact cause of the accident,” Insp Scott said.
“The road that the accident occurred on was reduced to one lane while officers attended the scene and the debris was cleared.”
A spokesman for the Sydney-based transport company that owns the vehicle involved in the accident said the load was destined for Brisbane after being picked up in Dubbo.
“I got a call from the driver shortly after the accident and thankfully for everyone he was well enough to make that call,” the spokesman said.
“When I was speaking to him he said he had a sore leg and some cuts but from the sounds of things he was lucky because he said the truck was a complete mess.
“He had picked up a load of fruit from Dubbo and was on his way to take it to the markets in Brisbane. From what he told me he hadn’t got far out of Dubbo when the accident happened.
“It wasn’t nice to get that kind of call but the first thing we make sure is that he is alright and that his family knows he is alright.”
