The Daily Liberal, in conjunction with Rodney Sparrow The Good Guys, encourages people to hit the turf for Derby Day and enter its best dressed competition.
This is a fantastic opportunity to show people you are Dubbo’s best dressed lady or gent Dubbo Turf Club secretary manager Mark Day said.
Mr Day says the fashions adds a special element to the day.
He also thinks that dressing up has a good effect on behaviour.
“People don’t put on a suit to act like hooligans and clowns,” he said.
“If you’re young - and I mean anyone under 80, if you get dressed up, why not flaunt it.”
Mr Day, a man who “loves to shop”, sorted out his race-day attire during a trip to Hong Kong earlier this year.
“I’ll be wearing a black suit with white pinstripe,” he said.
As people arrive at the racecourse they should look out for the Daily Liberal photographer, who will be scouting for fashion talent.
There are 70 ladies spots and 30 gents spots up for the taking.
While women get a thrill out of dressing up, the Daily Liberal’s Melanie Currey said men also liked to look the part.
Couples also take the opportunity to dress in matching attire and achieve notice by the fashion gurus, she said.
The 70 ladies and 30 gents will appear in a photo preview in the Wednesday edition of the Daily Liberal.
The competition entry form will appear from Thursday for two weeks.
The winner will be announced in the Weekend Liberal on November 21.
Daily Liberal readers, who’ve always aspired to be high up in the fashion world, can judge who will win and one lucky voter will win themselves a prize.
