Angus Grady Caswell faced Magistrate Andrew Eckhold on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resist police and malicious damage of property.
Police allege the offences occurred in Dubbo on September 7.
The court heard Caswell had been assessed as suitable for the Magistrate's Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) drug and alcohol diversion program.
Caswell will reappear in court on December 19. Bail was continued.
MERIT provides an opportunity for adult defendants with substance abuse problems to work towards rehabilitation as part of the bail process. Participants are closely case-managed by the MERIT team and the court receives regular progress reports. Final hearing and sentence generally coincides with the completion of the MERIT program.
