In Blowes Cup round seven matches on Saturday, the Kangaroos scored six tries to one in defeating Wellington 40-7 after leading 26-7 at half-time, while the Golden West Holden Rhinos enjoyed a bye.
The students at CSU and Bathurst Bulldogs lead the series on 30 points after both had good wins. CSU beat Cowra 46-3 while Bathurst got over Mudgee 31-8.
Forbes are third on 23 points, then come the Rhinos on 21 and Kangaroos and Narromine on 19.
Forbes won their match 19-14 over Orange City on Saturday while Narromine provided the shock of the round with a 27-15 crushing of Orange Emus.
Fly-half Brian Furner was thrust into the important pivotal role, and while pleased with the win, said there is room for improvement.
"We scored two tries early and then maybe after that tried to do too much with the ball, pushed our passes and made mistakes," he said.
"There were several half breaks but unfortunately they didn't eventuate to much because of the mistake rate."
While pleased with his own game, Furner said it would take some time to fit in with the play of inside centre Ben Kidd particularly, and the forwards.
"Ben likes to run a particular way with the ball and because I haven't been playing with him our messages got messed up a bit," Furner said.
"Time will fix that.
"There is also some work to do with the forwards. We did well for a couple of phases but then that good work broke down, but mainly because of a misunderstanding.
"But there were plenty of good things to come out of the game.
"We scored six good tries and got a bonus point and the forwards such as Sam Webster, Ray White and Gus Kelly all did some good things and that gave the backs more options and the breaks did come."
Roos halfback Alex Aarvold was judged his side's best while Webster gained two points and second-rower Brad Tink one.
Flanker Andrew Wise also had a great game and scored two tries while replacement Lee Perchtold and fullback Craig Pickett did some good things.
In the minor grades, Roos won seconds 57-7 but the home side triumphed in third grade 19-17 and colts 14-7.
Dubbo Kangaroos 40 (Andrew Wise 2, Gus Kelly, Troy Constance, Brian Furner, Lee Perchtold tries, Craig Pickette 5 conversions) def Wellington 7 (Robbie George try, Luke Millgate 1 conversion).
