These victims featured among the 896 reports involving abuse of older people made to the Commission in just three months. A further 217 reports involved adults with a disability.

People aged over 80 featured highly in the reporting with 38 aged 95-99, 109 aged 90-94, 160 aged 85-89 and 173 aged 80-84. Female victims made up 67.5 per cent of the cases.

In more than half of the elder abuse reports (453), the alleged perpetrator was the adult victims's child. In 112 cases it was the spouse or partner and in 79 cases it was a paid staff member. Other alleged perpetrators included family members such as grandchildren or siblings, neighbours, other community members and ex-partners and spouses.

The Commission's abuse helpline reported a 40 per cent increase in calls (3894 in total) over the previous three months.

All parts of NSW were represented in the reports however the highest numbers came from SW Sydney - 122, Hunter - 79, Illawarra-Shoalhaven - 67 and Central Coast - 62.

The main type of abuse was psychological (472 cases), financial (329), neglect (244), physical (107), other (36), sexual (8).
