RSL Colts got off to a less than ideal start as Charlie Kempston and Marty Jeffrey both went early before Chris Morton launched a counter-attack.
Morton made 47 before he was removed by Ben Patterson as the pitch started to play some tricks.
Mitch Bower (38) did his best to negate the inconsistent bounce as RSL Colts were bowled for 166.
Bailey Edmunds was the pick of the Cougars bowlers taking 4/46 while Patterson (3/19) and Brock Larance (2/32) also chipped in.
Opening the batting, the aggressive Larance got the chase off an exciting start for CYMS hitting a quickfire 31 before he was removed by Ben Taylor.
The CYMS opener's departure only brought Tom Nelson to the crease to join Phallak Kumar as the pair chipped away at chasing down the runs.
Kumar (53) played his best innings of the season so far before Bower got a ball to spin past his defence to bowl him.

Nelson (39) and Tom Barber (38) combined to continue the Cougars momentum as they eventually chased down the runs in the 35th over handing CYMS an eight-wicket win.
Following the game, Knaggs admitted he thought it was the Cougars' best performance of the season so far.
"It was nice to get the win today," he said.
"I thought we bowled pretty well.
"Then just batting I thought Brock (Larance) and Phallak (Kumar) had an unreal partnership opening the batting.
"Then for Tom Barber and Tom Nelson to come out and finish it the job was just unreal."
CYMS' top order had not really fired before their match against RSL Colts but Knaggs knows they can still improve throughout the season.
"It was sort of the first time we've really stuck it together," he said.
"I think in the field we still need to improve.
"But all together I thought that was our best performance of the year by far."
Meanwhile, at Lady Cutler, Macquarie continued their unbeaten start to the one day season with an eight-wicket win over Rugby.
Lachlan Strachan was again Macquarie's best taking 2/26 before hitting a rapid 76 not out while captain Ricky Medway made a handy 41.
Newtown's Will Palmer and South Dubbo's Mat Finlay both took five-wicket hauls in their clash at Lady Cutler 2.
Newtown opener Dan French hit 63 earlier in the day to guide the Tigers to 8/238 before Palmer's 5/2 caused headaches for the Souths batsman who were bowled out for 75.
