Ms McLachlain will run in an independent group along with Grahame Miller in north ward at the election.

Ms McLachlain admitted it was Mr Miller who convinced her to run for council.

"I had real doubt running," she said.

"But Grahame [Miller] really convinced me to run. He said that if we ran together it would make us a stronger group. We believe in the same things as well."

Ms McLachlain said her and Mr Miller shared the same interest in a certain project within the north ward, believing council could do more.

"We really want to see the council do more to try and stop the River Street bridge," she said.

"In this council term they passed policy but they didn't do that much to help the campaign in the same way that they did to lobby for a rehab and drug court.

"They left the campaigning up lot to the community volunteers and I'd like to see them do a lot more."

While she may have only made her decision to run for council recently, Ms McLachlain said she had an interest in supporting other council candidates who shared her ideas.

"Well I have had the idea for a long time that we should be supporting people running for council who are going to take a much more active interest in the River Street bridge," she said.

"I didn't initially want to run but I started to consider it because at that point I couldn't find any people interest in running."
