Macquarie kept its unbeaten start to the season going last Saturday when defeating Newtown and this weekend they are scheduled to meet RSL-Whitney Cup leaders and defending premiers RSL Colts in a blockbuster battle.

Blues captain Ricky Medway admitted he doesn't expect the match to go ahead given the rain which has fallen around the region this week is expected to continue in the coming days, but that hasn't stopped his side talking about its performance with the bat so far this season.

"There's always room for improvement for us," he said.

"We've been more consistent, which has been one of our goals this season, and that's been good. Especially in the field and with the ball but I think our batting does need to improve a bit more."

Macquarie has had one of the best batting lineups on paper in the competition for a number of years but turning that talent into winning performances hasn't always been a simple feat.

Making every player accountable and determined to be the one to score the runs has been a focus for previous captains and senior players, and nothing has changed under Medway's leadership this season.

"Absolutely. That's the problem," the new captain said.

"We've got a great batting lineup but we just think we'll get the runs or someone else will. You should be thinking you want to be the one to get the runs.

"That's something that's definitely been talked about with us. We've got to stop relying on everyone else to do the job."

Putting together the batting lineup each week has been a headache for Medway early this season given the quality he has to work with.

What was already an imposing lineup has been further boosted by the arrival of leading all-rounder Lachlan Strachan while Medway said fellow recruit Blake Smith, who has come across from Parkes, could easily be batting higher than his current number 10 position.

Should play go ahead on Saturday, the top-of-the-table battle at No. 1 Oval will feature a huge amount of talent as the Colts batting lineup features the likes of Mitch Bower, Charlie Kempston, Brad Cox, Marty Jeffrey, and Chris Morton.

"Plenty of runs on the board are needed," Medway said.

"We really need to attack their bowlers. If we get a big score it will be a good game."

Elsewhere on Saturday, CYMS and Souths will meet in their annual club day fixtures at the Lady Cutler grounds while Rugby and Newtown will do battle at No. 2 Oval.

All matches are scheduled to start at 1pm.
