Former mayor of Dubbo Mathew Dickerson is hoping his passion for the city will help him be elected next month at the local government elections.

Mr Dickerson is running in central ward for the upcoming Dubbo Regional Council election and believes you can't get more local than himself.
"As a fourth generation Dubbo Regional Council resident and a second-generation central west resident, I can justify calling myself a true local," he said.
Mr Dickerson will run as a solo independent candidate in the hotly contested central ward which will also feature fellow former mayor Ben Shields and current councillor Vicki Etheridge.
Mr Dickerson became a councillor for the first time back in 2004 before becoming deputy mayor just a year later.
In 2011, he would eventually progress to become mayor of Dubbo, a position he remained in for the next five years. until his time as mayor ended due to state-wide amalgamations.
Mr Dickerson opted not stand for election after the amalgamation in 2016 but expressed his concern about what had happened on council in that time.

"I believe that now, more than ever, Dubbo needs experience, integrity and leadership," he said.
If elected, Mr Dickerson knows he can use the experiences he has had on council to help the community.
"If I am elected, I will not rest on my laurels," he said.
"Rather, I will use my experience to create much-needed momentum for our communities."
Mr Dickerson has built six successful businesses during his career in Dubbo, all of which have gone on to win awards on a local, national and international arenas.
"During my time at council, we built a reputation for open communication and transparent government," the council candidate said.
"We introduced many unique initiatives to progress Dubbo and improve the environment for all residents.
"I helped initiate the Councillor Pledge in 2012 for all councillors to sign."
Mr Dickerson also was the chairman of Evocities while founding the Tour de OROC and starting the ASX CEO series.
Mr Dickerson is one of three former mayors who will be running for council on December 4 with Mr Shields who is also central ward. Greg Matthews will be seeking election in the north ward in just one week's time.
