John Hanscombe's article regarding Wilcannia drying-up calls for the implementation of the solution I proposed about 20 years ago to supply rain water from a very big pond near Mt Isa - some 227 metres above sea level-and pipe it to inland towns, such as Wilcannia, Cloncurry, Bourke, rewarrinia, Longreach, Walgett, etc-all gravity fed.
I have surveyed and designed similar schemes in New Guinea with support from the locals.

The pond is to have racks of rotatable solar panels, that open and close with the intensity of the tropical downpours-thus eliminating evaporation,& providing solar/electric power to all homes in Mt Isa.
Water supply costs zero to run-Filtered water is fed into the town's reticulation system. A simple system to supply clean water to inlanders and gardens.
