Emergency services were called to Scrivener Street in Forbes about 11.15pm on Wednesday, after reports of a fight between a group of people.
On arrival, officers attached Central West Police District found a man lying on the road with injuries to his head, as well as a stab wound to torso.

The 35-year-old was treated by paramedics before being taken to Orange Base Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.
Following investigations, about 5.15am on Thursday, police arrested an 18-year-old man at a home on Scrivener Street, Forbes.
He was taken to Parkes Police Station, where he was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He remains before the court.
A second 28-year-old man was arrested at a home on Farnell Street in Forbes about 12.15pm on Thursday.
He was taken to Parkes Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grevious bodily harm. He was refused bail and will appear before Orange Local Court.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
