Dubbo Regional Council has unanimously voted in favour of two weeks of community consultation with residents on the elements they value in the park's existing playground, Livvi's Place.

The council's $870,000 plan to turn the fully-fenced and all-access Livvi's Place into a dedicated fitness zone and create a new play space alongside the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre Pool Deck Kiosk caused alarm among parents when announced in early September.

A petition calling for a fence around the new play space was put on hold after Dubbo Region Mayor Stephen Lawrence and Cr Jane Diffey intervened.

Cr Diffey moved a notice of motion at Monday night's council's meeting in a bid to give the community more time to have its say.

Cr Diffey, Cr Lawrence and Cr John Ryan spoke to it.

A report will be presented to the council's October meeting on the "results of the community consultation and possible design modifications, including costs, that meet the values of the community".

The community consultation is expected to be offered via www.dubbo.nsw.gov.au.
