"The students who have been able to complete their works have done well to get them completed given the current circumstances," Mr Burden said.

"The finishing off on some of them didn't get done because of Dubbo going into lockdown, so those students will have to finish them when they are able to get back.

"It shows the resilience of those students, being able to complete them, overcoming those adversities and thinking outside of the box.

"Their hard work throughout their year and their ability to overcome the adversity really paid off with some really great work and some good life lessons.

"One of the best pieces was a decorative keep sake box made by one of our female students, Veronica Mitchell.

"It's at a very, very high standard and shows some great traditional timber joints which she did. It was very well done.

"Another one was by Zane Foley who did an egg chair and stand.

"Again, that was of very, very high quality.

""There was a lot of hard work put into both of those projects to get them completed."

Mr Foley said the construction of the chair was quite challenging, developing new skills such as laminating and layering lengths of timber to create the bends for each rung of the chair and for the supporting stand.

"I incorporated my metal skills to make my own screws and bolts to enhance the shape that was needed for the design," he said.

"I really enjoyed the challenges I faced creating this project and the life skills learnt along the way."

Mr Burden said there were also a lot of high quality entertainment units done by the students.

"We had an entertainment unit done by Braye Porter, which is of furniture shop quality," Mr Burden said.

"Jye Wilson, also did a storage box with a radio and CD player with Bluetooth for around a pool area which is also high quality."

Hamish Purtell, Mitchell Martin, Gabe Ruston, Fletcher Haycock and Kaylah Sharkey were all also able to complete their works despite the COVID-19 challenges presented.

Impressed by all of his students, Mr Burden said he has been left feeling very proud of his students, but he also credits all of the teachers and teachers aids at St John's College for having gone above and beyond to support the students during what has been a challenging year for us all.
