OPENED in March, 2004, Dubbo Acupuncture Centre was the first Chinese medicine clinic to open in Dubbo and the region.

Acupuncturist Raisa Kolesnikova undertook six years of university study to obtain her master's degree in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

Raisa, a Chinese herbal medicine practitioner, owns and operates a Chinese Medicine Clinic.

Dubbo Acupuncture and Carter Chiropractic is a small, friendly patient-focused clinic, employing four receptionists, four chiropractors and one acupuncturist/Chinese herbal medicine practitioner.

"Women's Health Week is an important topic for all women who are working full-part time, who experience stress from daily changes in their working environment," Raisa says.

"Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can assist with women's health problems and general wellbeing. It has helped women with issues such as menopausal problems and fertility issues.

"Women's general well-being is so important for themselves, if you're not well, you won't be able to take care of everyone else, therefore take time to go for a walk, listen to music, cook some healthy food or do something for yourself; have an acupuncture treatment to relax and recharge."

Raisa moved to Dubbo 30 years ago and has been practising acupuncture and Chinese medicine for 17 years.

"Acupuncture originated in China and is recognised as an ancient Chinese medicine," Raisa says.

"Acupuncture became more recognised in the late 20th century and is now taught at many leading universities in Australia.

"Now Chinese medicine has integrated with modern medical practice in the treatment of a wide range of health conditions, including infertility.

"Studies suggest that acupuncture could increase pregnancy rates among women undergoing IVF, there are many women who have no structural problems but still have difficulty to fall pregnant, in this instance acupuncture and Chinese Medicine could be very helpful.

"In the past 17 years, I have helped many people to regain their health back again, it is a very rewarding profession to see my patients enjoying their life again.

"New patients are always nervous about needles. During my consultation I always show the patient the needles first. Most patients are not even able to feel it when I am treating them. Acupuncture is a relaxing treatment, many people who suffer anxiety or depression find acupuncture treatment is very helpful."
