Last month, Budget Direct launched its inaugural Safe Suburbs Map, which compares property crimes such as breaking and entering, malicious damage, theft and stealing from dwelling, reported to police from 2017-2020.
According to the data, the crime rate for the Dubbo region is 82 crimes per 1000 properties, and with the state average at 38 crimes, places us in the "higher risk" category.

Budget Direct found postcode 2830 is ranked at 537th in the state out of 570 suburbs.
According to their data Baldry and Mendooran are the safest postcodes in the Orana and Far West, ranking 14 and 66 respectively. This was followed by Amaroo at 89.
At the higher risk end was Armatree ranking at 567, followed by Billeroy on 564. Baradine was ranked 546 going up from 525 in 2019.
Mungery was ranked at 536, Burroway 522, Gulargambone 413 and Coolah 413.
Their data, which records crimes per 1000 households, in 2020 Baldry recorded 12 incidents while Mendooran recorded 17.
Gulargambone recorded 44 crimes, while Burroway recorded 71, and Mungery recorded 80.
Overall however, compared to other regions, the Orana and Far West do sit at the safer end coming in third after Illawarra, and Hornsby in North Sydney. Sydney's Northern Beaches and Sutherland shire are ranked the worst.
With this new interactive tool, Budget Direct's Jonathan Kerr said home buyers had more access to property and suburb data than ever before.
"Whether you're looking for your first home or an investment property, it is really useful to be able to look at the property crime rate of your desired suburb," he said.
"With Budget Direct's Safe Suburbs Map, you can look up the postcodes of the suburbs where you're looking to buy and see how many property crimes occur per 1,000 homes. You will be able to compare up to 2 postcodes at a time and how each suburb ranks within your desired state."
Mr Kerr said Budget Direct's latest home burglary survey found that at least one in four residents, or 24.7 per cent, were more concerned about home invasions in their suburbs compared to the previous 12 months.
"While you might be fortunate enough to live in a lower-risk suburb, it is still very important that you take actions to minimise your risk of home theft as this can happen to anyone," he said.
