A positive case was also recorded in Lightning Ridge but has since been deemed a 'false positive' and is not being counted.

Of the nine Dubbo cases, four are residents of the St Mary's Villa Residential Aged Care facility, bringing its total to 17- the same number of positive cases as the Dubbo Holy Spirit Aged Care facility.

Western NSW Local Health District chief executive Scott McLachlan said staff members had been brought into the facility within the past 24 hours to help target infection control as the situation at both facilities remained "concerning".

Of the 13 new cases, three were infectious in the community for longer than two days - one in Dubbo and two in Walgett - two were in isolation and the rest are being investigated.

The district's total is now sitting at 992 positive COVID-19 cases, 718 of them in Dubbo.

There are currently also 18 positive cases in hospitals across the region, five are in intensive care - nine in Dubbo, one at Bourke, four at Bathurst, three are at Orange and one in Narromine.

"Another 57 people have also been discharged from our Care in Community Program, bringing the total number to 393," Mr McLachlan said.

In the last 24 hours, there have also been five new positive cases reported in the Far West - four are in Wilcannia and one is in Broken Hill.

Mr McLachlan said areas of concern, including Cobar, the Cabonne LGA and Oberon, would be prioritised for Australian Defence Force visits in the weeks to come.

Mr McLachlan also announced on Tuesday residents across the region will soon have access to the 'high-quality' COVID-19 mRNA vaccine Moderna through local pharmacies for the very first time.

Moderna will be eligible for people 12 years of age to 59.
