The campervans, which can also be used for people who have to isolate due to being identified as close COVID contacts, are self-contained.

Food will be provided to those who stay there.

Western NSW Local Health District chief executive Scott McLachlan said the campervans would help reduce the risk of COVID spreading.

However, he said people staying in the campervans wouldn't be sick from COVID.

"We have different services available for people who are sick with COVID, including care in hospitals, our COVID Care in the Community service where people remain at home to receive healthcare, and Special Health Accommodation," Mr McLachlan said.

The campervans, which will be at the Mitchell Caravan Park in Bourke, will start to be occupied this week. At this stage they'll be used for the next two months.
