The leave can be used by staff to undertake home schooling or cover childcare closures during lockdowns, if they're under orders to stay at home as a result of being a close contact and can't work from home, or if they can neither work from home nor campus.

Charles Sturt University Vice-Chancellor Professor Renée Leon said the additional leave had been implemented to help alleviate the pressures staff are facing during the ongoing lockdowns.

"Charles Sturt University staff have shown extraordinary resilience through lockdowns and have continued to diligently apply their skills in the most trying of circumstances," Professor Leon said.

"The University has made the decision to give staff up to five days of 'Stay at Home Order' leave to ensure they feel able to prioritise their families, personal lives and mental health as needed."

The leave is in addition to normal leave allocations. It will also be available to part-time and part-year staff on a pro-rata basis.

Charles Sturt is taking all necessary steps to ensure this additional leave will not impact the University's operations, including teaching.

The health and safety of Charles Sturt's staff, students and communities - both domestic and international - is of paramount concern to the University. As such, staff have been instructed they will continue working from home until the end of October unless it is not reasonably practicable to do so.
