Cyclists will compete against their Western rivals in the Western Division E-Sport Cycling Championships held via an online multiplayer cycling program called Zwift.

The championships will also double as the final round of AusCycling Club National E-Sport Series.

Dubbo Cycle Club president Ben O'Brien feels the night will be a good challenge for the riders.

"It has been a challenge getting people to sign up," he said.

"Not everybody has got those indoor trainers to jump on but it has brought a few new people that have not necessarily raced before but have been using the trainers."

The Cycle Club will be represented by almost 20 riders and O'Brien feels there is a good spread of competitors throughout the grades.

"I think we have 18 or so riders," he said.

"It's not too bad, I guess we would like to have a few more ladies in it.

"We've got 18 or so riders across the grades so we have a good chance in the Western Division."

O'Brien feels the goal of the series is a simple one, in what could be the future of cycling

"The goal is just to get more people involved in the sport of cycling," he said.

"If that's the way we have to do it at the moment then that's how we are doing it."

O'Brien wants the Dubbo riders to finish ahead of their Western rivals

"It would be really nice to beat Bathurst," he said.

The virtual event is different to cycling outside and O'Brien knows it can take a bit of getting used to.

"To be perfectly honest, I've only had a couple of go's at it," he said.

"It's a very different experience doing it virtually as opposed to doing it on a bike.

"But it's amazing how realistic some of it feels."

Dubbo Cycle Club have been relatively unaffected by COVID-19 and O'Brien believes they are in a really good place.

"We've still been lucky as a club," he said.

"We have still been running our regular road racing and only missed on Saturday because of the weather.

"It probably has meant we have a few more people riding because some of the away races have been cancelled.

"People have had to stay in Dubbo but we aren't going too badly this year all things considered.

"It's certainly things like the Western Division and eSeries means a lot more people can do it compared to being able to do it normally."

Bathurst sit behind third on the total points leaderboard.

The final race will get underway at 7:30pm online.
