The Ancient Landscapes Gallery and Megafauna Exhibition was officially opened on Monday morning. It shows how Wellington Caves used to be covered by ocean, and how receding waters lead to the discovery of the waves and megafauna fossils.
The exhibition area is activity based and designed to bring megafauna and ancient landscapes to life. It includes a large, interactive collection display room and an immersive theatre experience that uses augmented reality.

The $700,000 gallery was jointly funded by all three levels of government.
"We know through palaeontological digs, and decades of research, that megafauna roamed this areas until as recently as 13,000 years ago," mayor Stephen Lawrence said.
"The new Ancient Landscapes Megafauna Education Experience at the Wellington Caves will showcase that history, through life-size depictions of megafauna that once roamed this country."
Dubbo MP Dugald Saunders said the gallery would engage young people with interactive, science-based activities that aligned with school curriculums.
A number of local contractors were engaged to complete the work, including Bond Constructions, Switch Electrical and Data Installation and Darlington Plastering.
Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee said it was great to see the construction providing a boost to local employment.
The Ancient Landscapes Gallery and Megafauna Exhibition is now open to the public, seven days a week, located at the Wellington Caves Visitor Experience Centre near Wellington.
