That is how Central West Junior Rugby competition administrator Jarrod Simpson described the move to temporarily suspend play in the wake of the NSW Health imposed stay-at-home order for the Orange, Cabonne and Blayney areas.
The week-long lockdown of residents within those areas, and those who have visited those areas, impacted a large number of clubs who compete in CWJRU competitions.
Therefore the CWJRU board decided to suspend play in its under 12s, under 14s and under 16s competitions as well as Walla gala days for a period of one week.
"It was basically because a lot of clubs in our competition were affected by it, it's a week lock down so we've got a bit of time, it's not like our competitions need to be decided in a week," Simpson said.
"It was an easy decision, we're really happy to make sure we're complying with all the regulations.
"Cabonne goes from Canowindra down to Yeoval, we've got kids who live in Yeoval playing in Dubbo and Wellington, kids who live in Canowindra playing with Cowra, so it effects a lot of clubs. It was easy to make."
This Sunday's planned Walla gala day was to be held in Orange and include players from Bathurst, Milthorpe, Cowra, Mudgee, Orange City, Molong and Wellington.
At this stage a decision on whether the under 12, under 14 and under 16 games which were scheduled for this weekend will be played at a later date is yet to be made.
Those competitions involve a total of 29 teams from 10 clubs - Bathurst Bulldogs, Orange Emus, Orange City, Dubbo, Wellington, Mudgee, Parkes, Cowra-Canowindra, Milthorpe and Forbes.
"If we all comply and get it done at the moment, hopefully it's a short lockdown and we can get back into playing," Simpson said.
