Wellington finished 28-8 victors and captain-coach Justin Toomey-White loved what his side brought to the match.
"It was awesome," he said.
"We spoke about it before the game that it was going to be a tough 80-minute grind which it was."
Before the match, Toomey-White wanted all his squad to stand up and felt the side dedicated their win to Uncle Ab Towney who passed away last week.
"Exactly what unfolded," he said.
"We spoke about before the game and losing uncle Ab [Towney] during the week.
"It was the main topic to go out there when our backs were against the wall and think about that old fella and what he did for our community and club.
"The boys really put on a show for him."
Colt Ure was one of the Cowboys best and Toomey-White was impressed with the explosive middle.

"[He was] Awesome, machine, unbelievable," he said.
"His carries forward and his defence but our whole middle Macca Duffield, Wade Peachey stood up and Brocky Naden and the list goes on.
"But Colty, he owned that middle."
CYMS coach Shaun Townsend knows the better side won on the day.
"We just got beaten to the punch for most of the game," he said.
"They started pretty fast which we knew they would but I still thought we had chances.
"Just after half time, the disallowed try sort of ripped our momentum away and after that they were too good for us.
"They broke us apart, so I'm pretty disappointed, I thought we would be a bit better than that but it's something to improve on."
Peter Karydis was one of CYMS best and Townsend admitted he liked what the bench forward did.
"Pete Karydis was our best player," he said.
"He showed the blueprint, there is no finesse about it.
"Just run hard and hit that inside shoulder of blokes but we just didn't have enough of it."
Wellington opened the scoring through CJ Ralph who crossed in the corner six minutes in to give the visitors a 4-0 lead.
Ralph's afternoon went from good to bad minutes later when he was sent to the sin bin but CYMS failed to capitalise on the numbers advantage.
Wade Kavanagh crossed next for the Cowboys against his old club before Mason Williams added the extras.
CYMS got themselves on the board late in the first half as Karydis throw a flick pass to Jyie Chapman who scored to make the score 10-4 which it remained until the end of the first half.
It felt like CYMS had to score next to stay in the game and they did was Jack Smith crossed the line but Jeremy Thurston was unable to convert as the score move to 10-8.
Ure muscled his way over minutes later before it was converted by Williams to extend the Cowboys lead.
With 20 minutes remaining, Toomey-White was sent to the sin bin also and CYMS thought they had scored through Ali Beale only for the referee to rule obstruction.
Cowboys livewire fullback Will Lousick darted over from dummy half to score before Eric Fernando also bagged himself a try with Williams converting both to make the score 28-8 which it remained.
