Macquarie United didn't have it all their own way at Lady Cutler 3 on Sunday but the belief and quality within the squad came to the fore in a 4-2 victory over Newtown.
The result keeps the three-time defending premiers on top of the ladder and and ahead of the second-placed RSL 78s by six points.
"I really couldn't ask for it to be better at the moment," coach Dave Jeffrey said of the start to the season.
"It's ticking along well and while we didn't play to our best on Sunday the girls still came away with a win and we're looking good at the moment."

Like so many other sporting clubs within Dubbo, this season hasn't been the easiest to deal with for United as there's been a number of byes while rain and ground closures has made training difficult at times as well.
Jeffrey said it may have played a part in his side's slightly lacklustre performance against Newtown.
It appeared the champions could have been heading towards a first loss of the season on Sunday when the score was at 2-2 but Jeffrey was pleased to see his side keeps its composure and wrestle back control of the match.
"They do back themselves. The one thing I'll say about Macquarie girls is they don't panic if they're behind or if someone scores a goal," the coach said.
"They just dig in and keep playing their game and usually results go our way. They're fairly calm so it's a good thing."
Nikea Goodwin and Shian Chatfield were again standouts but Jeffrey also gave credit to Emma Burdack for her performance in the win over Newtown.
The Newtown side pressed United and stayed in their face throughout the contest and while it wasn't enough to stop the leaders from recording another win, Jeffrey said it was far from easy.
They're making us work and that's good, it's what you want.
- Dave Jeffrey on Macquarie's rivals
He said nothing this season has come too easy despite his side being at the top of the table with a positive goal differential of 39.
"The scores don't always reflect the game and the scoreboard might look easy at times but the girls have to work and RSL is always a good team, Bulls are a good team this year, so they've made it tough for us," he said.
"They're making us work and that's good, it's what you want."
RSL 78s and Bulls also won on the weekend.
The Bulls won 5-2 over Wellington while RSL 78s kept a hold of second spot on the ladder by defeating the Westside Panthers 2-1.
Macquarie meets Westside next week while RSL 78s takes on Wellington and Newtown meets the Bulls.
"We just have to get back on track and play the way we know we can play," Jeffrey said, looking forward.
"We have to play each game as it comes and see where we end up and at finals time we'll reassess."
