Rural Crime Investigators are making inquiries into the discovery of butchered sheep carcasses near Mudgee which had been stripped of all valuable meat cuts and were found without earmarks or ear tags.

The sheep carcasses were found on the western side of Waterworks Road, about 70 metres north of Bruce Road in Mudgee's southern reaches, and were identified as Merino lambs upon inspection.

The valuable meat cuts had been completely stripped from the carcasses leaving only the head, skins, hooves and intestines.

Police 'mouthed' the sheep and found them to have a full set of milk teeth, estimating their age between 10 to 12 months old - fully-grown lambs.
