Earlier in the year, Dubbo Regional Council sought feedback on a draft design for a play space at Joira Oval.
The new play area was designed to cater for the growing population of Delroy Parklands and Grangewood Estate.
It lead to complaints on the location, lack of parking and possible anti-social behaviour.
Because of the opposition, council's open space coordinator Ben Pilon has recommended that the project shouldn't proceed and the $280,000 put aside for the play area be kept for something else.
The decision will be made by the councillors at Tuesday night's June committee meetings.
One of the complaints against the proposed play space said it was "the wrong choice for a playground in west".
"Joira Oval is an extremely poor choice. Location is unsafe due to traffic, dust bowl of an area, it's out of the way - and will most definitely not be used by locals to the best of its ability because of a poor location," the submission to council said.
Another resident said they were "baffled" by the proposed location of the play area.
"I note council wants people to use the existing walkways... While this is a good idea in theory, human nature dictates that people will drive to the closest entry point to the park which will be in front pf the residents' homes. The streets in this area are not very wide as only people who use these streets are the residents - it's not a drive through area," they said.
In the council report, Mr Pilon responded to the concerns about parking.
"Unfortunately, the current budget identified for the Joira Oval play space does not include provision for further inclusion or upgrades to off-street parking. If the plan was heavily supported, further parking opportunities would have been further investigated, with funding opportunities sought," Mr Pilon said.
If the play space is not constructed, the $280,000 will be kept for future play space improvement opportunities.
The council meeting will be held in the Dubbo chambers on Tuesday night from 5.30pm.
It will also be livestreamed on the Dubbo Regional Council website and Facebook page.
