The surrounding areas of Mudgee, as well as residenital areas of Bathurst and Orange have all been coated.
Astley Cup:
Orange High School has told students that Astley Cup, which was due to take place in Bathurst today, has been postponed as safety "remains their number one priority".
Organisers say tomorrow's Astley Cup events will proceed as planned at this stage.
Parents are asked to check their school's websites and Facebook pages to see if their children's schools open.
In Mudgee:
With a thick blanket of snow falling around the region, the morning bus run is becoming somewhat of a challenge, with the Hargraves bus not running.
Live Traffic shows traffic is affected in both directions at Cherry Tree Hill to Apple Tree Flat on the Castlereagh Highway and motorists are advised to exercise caution and drive to the conditions.
The Mid Western SES are encouraging people to be careful when driving in these conditions, even with no snow, it is known that roads can have a clear coating of ice, especially from 6am-9am which may cause vehicles to slip. It is advisable to restrict any driving during the cold period or drive to the conditions.
In Bathurst:
The Bureau of Meteorology had forecast snow to as low as 500 metres and it finally arrived in the early hours of this morning.
The snow is settling in many parts of the city that have not had snow on the ground since the famous overnight dump of July 2015, but light rain could see it quickly disappear.
Motorists are urged to take extra care on the roads this morning as crews continue assessing conditions across the region.
The snow is even heavier on the high country around Bathurst with thick snow on the ground around Oberon following a few light flurries yesterday.

WITH Orange school bus services canceled due to heavy snowfall in the region, parents are guardians are being asked to check school websites to see if schools will be operating as usual.
James Sheahan Catholic High School has officially called Thursday a snow day and closed the school for the day.
Some other schools, including Orange High School and Orange Anglican Grammar, will remain open to students although acknowledge getting students to school may be a challenge without school buses operational.
In Lithgow:
Light snow flurries fell on Wednesday morning in Lithgow and while nothing settled on the ground, the mercury continued to plummet with freezing wind, light showers and sunshine forcing an appearance in between.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) the top temperature reached just 6°C with a low of -1°C.
Snow falls were predicted to fall above 500 metres. According to social media there were reports of falls out near Oberon, Orange, Jenolan Caves, Blackheath, Dargan, Yetholme and Meadow Flat.
The Lithgow CBD still awaits a Winter wonderland but there is a possibility for falls above 900 metres on Thursday with a top temperature of 4°C and a minimum of -1°C.
