Dubbo College, Bathurst High School and Orange High School will again do battle with each other across the next three weeks.

The eight-sport competition includes boys' and girls' soccer, girls' hockey, tennis, athletics, girls' netball, boys' rugby league and boys' basketball.

Dubbo College sports captain Tom Coady said the entire school is buzzing ahead of the cup kicking off in Bathurst this week.

"I feel this year we are in with a pretty good chance of winning it. I think everyone is keen, pumped and ready to go which is good," he said.

Coady felt two Dubbo College squads stood out in particular.

"Girls' hockey are in with a big chance this year, they have a really strong team," he said.

"Obviously boys rugby league as well, we are pretty stacked on paper there as well."

The hockey side over recent years has struggled but time there's players likes of NSW representative Ellie Purtell and multi-sport star Isabella Attwater who will feature in three sports.

As always, the rugby league side is a strong one.

Macquarie Raiders forward Aston Warwick and Dubbo CYMS gun Zac Williams will co-captain the side which also will feature Western Rams representative under 16s winger Jake Cuthill.

For Dubbo College, 2011 was the last time Dubbo won the Cup but Coady believes this year will be different.

"I feel like everyone has been getting around each other, there is a lot of hype coming up to it after missing out last year,"

"I feel like everyone's just going to try that little bit harder."

The Astley Cup starts on Thursday between Orange and Bathurst before next week the latter will be in Dubbo.
