As of Friday morning the average price of regular unleaded across Orange, Bathurst and Dubbo was 137.39 cents-per-litre, with more rises - although not dramatic - expected in the coming weeks.

Across those three cities only Orange's Metro and 7-11 stations - both on Bathurst Road - were offering regular unleaded fuel for under 130 cents-per-litre, according to the NRMA's Fuel Check app.

Despite both retailers offering unleaded for a tick over 129 cents-per-litre the average price in Orange sat at 137.18 which was marginally higher than the median cost of fuel in Bathurst, at 134.36.

The latter had actually dropped from 136 cents-per-litre, where it sat as recently as Tuesday, with the cheapest option at Pearl Energy, which offered unleaded petrol for 131.5 cents-per-litre.

Moving farther west petrol prices were significantly more expensive in the Dubbo region, with unleaded fuel going for an average of 140.63 cents-per-litre and the median cost of diesel sitting at 140.7 cents-per-litre.

The cheapest options for both fuels in the Dubbo area was actually slightly outside the city at Shell Brocklehurst, which offered the two for 132.9 and 135.9 cents-per-litre respectively.

In both Orange and Bathurst the average price for diesel sat at 141.90 cents-per-litre on Friday morning.

While any petrol prices tend to alarm motorists and certainly impact their back pockets, prices in the Central West fare well in comparison to the rest of the state, the highest price point for unleaded fuel was 171.9 and for diesel it was 172.9.

"The reality with petrol is every suburb within Australia is its own market. The most important thing is if people do their research before they fill up," an NRMA spokesperson said.
