Community engagement officer for headspace Dubbo Amy Mines says it provides funds for "services tailored to local young people".
Officially, the challenge requires participants to do 3318 push-ups between June 1 and June 25, individually or as a team.
But people reluctant to accept the challenge are being told by the headspace team it is for "all ages and abilities" and they can "mix it up".
Participants can aim for 25 per cent, 50 per cent, 75 per cent or 100 per cent of a daily push-up target, or mix it up with sit-ups, squats or tailored exercises.
Ms Mines said events such as the Push-Up Challenge highlighted the "crucial role for services such as headspace as an entry point for young people and their families".

One in four young Australians will experience a mental health issue with 75 per cent of them developing before the age of 25.
