Dubbo Regional Council director of infrastructure Julian Geddes said the 'boil water alert' had been implemented as a precaution.
"Following a NSW Health instruction for Dubbo Regional Council to implement a 'boil water alert' as a precaution, council staff continue working to resolve issues with filters at the water treatment plant in Wellington," he said.

"Improvements in readings have been made, however not quite to a level where the precautionary boil water alert can be lifted."
Council announced the alert in a post on their facebook page on Monday evening, saying the water could be made safe by bringing it to a rolling boil.
They said electric kettles with automatic shut off switches were sufficient.
