Red Zephyr had not won since October 2017 while Golden Twilight had remained in maiden class after only scoring two placings from 18 starts.
At only the second start for Mulholland, six year old chestnut gelding Red Zephyr won Saturday's Jack O'Brien Memorial-Binnaway Cup (1300m) while carrying the 62kg top weight.
Leading throughout, the Jake Pracey Holmes-ridden Red Zephyr ($15) won by three-quarters of a length from Chuisle (Clayton Gallagher, $5) and the $2.90 favourite Sticks 'N' Stones, ridden by Yvette Lewis.

Golden Eclipse had previously raced at distances up to 2000 metres however at the first start for Michael Mulholland was able to win the Maiden Handicap over 1000m courtesy of a good ride from stable apprentice Kath Bell-Pitomac.
Eased around the heels of the leaders in the straight, Golden Eclipse sprinted to an almost three-length win over Superclaid (Tony Cavallo, $8) and Queen Dee (Gallagher, $3.80).
Apart from Red Zephyr, Pracey Holmes also won on the Clint Lundholm-trained Poetic Harmony and another Dubbo galloper, Classy Rebel, trained by Dar Lunn.
Parked behind the leaders in the Class 2 Handicap (1200m), Poetic Harmony finished best to account for Class Aplenty (Michael Heagney, $13) and Littlebit Longtime (Jodi Worley, $3.50).
Owned by Guy Mitchell from Binnaway and Rob Pratten from Dubbo, Classy Rebel ($7) raced near the lead and responded to vigorous riding from Pracey-Holmes to defeat Turmoil (Jodi Worley, $15) and Magic Smile (Cavallo, $4) in the Benchmark 45 Handicap (1100m).
Nyngan jockey Gallagher is in fine form and he gave Just Lose It ($3.80) a nice run before the Brett Thompson-trained three-year-old gelding wore down Skull Cap (Ken Dunbar, $6) to win by a head with Miss Breffni (Michael Heagney, $7.50) more than three lengths away third in the Frater Family Memorial Maiden Handicap (1300m).
The Luke Thomas-trained Leica Kite (Yvette Lewis, $11) chased the tearaway leader Norma Jeane in the Benchmark 45 Handicap (1700m) then took control to score by more than two lengths from Hayley's Lightning (Worley, $9) and Naoko (Heagney, $7.50).
