But taking on long distances is now his sport of choice and he proved it's been a wise decision on Sunday when claiming victory in the Bathurst Half Marathon.

While his time was a little slow than he would have liked on Sunday, it was still a hugely successful debut in the Bathurst event.

"Solo the whole way is always difficult. No one really wanted to tuck in behind and help make the pace," he said.

"The time was a bit slower then what I would've hoped for, but it's always good to get the win.

"I'm only fairly new to running really. I've got more of a soccer background. I'm 40 now, so I'm too old for soccer so I've taken up running and it's so far, so good.

"There's always improvement, but I'll keep training hard and see what I can do."

Goodstat finished the Bathurst Half Marathon in a time of 1:18:57, finishing 32 seconds ahead of Chris Pooley in second, while Matthew Ferguson came in at third in a time of 1:19:41.

Goodstat explained that he made the decision to make the trip down to Bathurst for the race due to a lack of events on due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I was just looking for a race that was around and this one came up," he said.

"There's obviously been a shortage of races throughout COVID, so seeing this one, being pretty close to home and easy to drive down to.

"The course is nice and flat and I'm not too sure, the two course laps are always difficult.

"You come around one lap and then you know you've got a whole other loop to go plays with the mind a bit, but the course was good."

Hometown hope Ash Corby was the winner of the women's event, finishing in a time of 1:33:56.
