Craftsman Peters returned home to Dubbo from the third Combat Service Support Battalion in Townsville, Queensland to commemorate the day in the community he grew up in.
"I haven't been able to celebrate Anzac Day with my family since I enlisted about five years ago, so it's a wonderful feeling to be back here today," he said.
Craftsman Peters was reunited with his family on Friday.
"There were lots of happy tears," Craftsman Peters said.
"They've generously flown me down here and given me some time off to spend with the family.
"I've got a good long while to catch up with family and play with all my nieces and nephews."
Craftsman Peters said he had been playing with army toys since the moment he could crawl, so enlisting in the army was never a question of maybe, but a dream he was determined to see through.
"Mum always said to me as I was growing up 'I guarantee you're gonna be joining the army, kid'," he said.
"Every second minute as a kid in school I'd say 'I'm joining the army'."
Craftsman Peters now also can share the title with his brother who has recently enlisted in the army and is completing training as an aviation technician in Darwin.
Craftsman Peters said he definitely thinks he had an influence on his brother to join.
"My brother that I'm able to share the title with I haven't been able to see for the last four years, unfortunately, but it just is what it is," he said.
"The army does supply you with tonnes of opportunities to reconnect with family, I'm able to get time off to attend most things, most of the weddings I'm invited to I'm able to attend."
